It’s only natural that friends and family will volunteer information as to what happened to them, or other people they know, when they got divorced. The problem is that the advice:
- Is often incorrect and misleading;
- Can create unrealistic expectations as to what you are “entitled to;” and
- Can create extra stress and anxiety at a time in your life when you least need it.
The “Greek Chorus” is well-intentioned and looking out for your welfare, but the circumstances of each divorce are very different and the decisions made depend upon the unique facts of your particular case.
